Project Summary
The goal of our class project was to raise money for the Irish Cancer Society. The Irish Cancer Society is a non-profit organization that provides free support and information to patients who have been diagnosed with cancer. The Irish Cancer Society also funds cancer research in order to develop better treatments and save more lives. They also provide emotional help to patients and their loved ones who are dealing with a cancer diagnosis. Recently diagnosed patients are assigned to cancer survivor volunteers who provide one-on-one support in person or over the phone through their Survivor Support Programme.
For this project, we were divided into several groups, each with its own task.
I was a member of the operation team, and my job was to stand in the Dkit's main corridor with a bucket, collecting donations from anyone who wanted to help. Also, I was able to find sponsors outside of Dkit who donated a total of 42 euros to the cause.
We also organized a team 8-kilometre walk in support of those dealing with cancer, but it was unfortunately cancelled due to weather conditions. As a result, some of us had to complete the 8-kilometre challenge alone, while the rest continued with the group walk challenge on December 10th. According to those who took part, the group walk was a success.
