About The Game
The Curse of Springfield Mine is an educational thriller horror game which takes place inside of a haunted mineshaft on the verge of collapse.
You play as Martin McGee, a mineshaft worker going about his day working in the mine like any other. Unfortunately for Martin and the other miners, for reasons unknown the mineshaft experiences a massive cave in around most of it's parts, causing the structure to become extremely unbalanced. Martin is relatively safe and unharmed from the cave in and falling debris, but Steve, a fellow miner next to him does not share his luck. Another miner named Bernadetta attempts to nurse Steve in order to make sure of his survival, and asks you to find a way out, while also hoping you manage to find a way to get external help in order to save Steve's life.
Now the player controlling Martin must explore and travel through the maze made up of various mineshaft tunnels, crashed debris, and different areas in order to find a way out, while making sure he does not lose his life to hazardous conditions such as electrified water, lethal drops, and a lack of oxygen.
But it is never so simple, as there seems to be something lurking in the dark pits of the mine. Something not natural...
The Inspiration
Our inspiration for our game is the 'Horton Mine' in Nevada, USA.
The mine is abandoned and allegedly haunted by a ghost. In the YouTube video that inspired our game, the narrator is informative about the condition of the mine and the dangers that were present in the Mine's entrance. This is where I learned about water in mines and why flowing water is better and safer (stagnant water could have dangerous gases such as methane trapped beneath the surface).
