About Me:

 My name is Jason Lynch, I am 4th year Computing in Games Development student in Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT). For our final group project we are required to build a video game in a team. I am a member of Team Robo-Kraken, a four man team consisting of Dylan Reilly, Eoghan Maguire, Oisin Murphy, and myself. I have been given the role of A.I developer as I have a lot of interest in that area and also the product owner as the games core idea came from me. I will be branching into other areas such as Lighting, Visual Effects, Performance, and Quest Design.

 

Project Description:

My game project is called “The Thinking City”. The thinking city is a first person survival/horror game where the player descends into an underground, technologically advanced city. The city itself is devoid of all human life and its A.I robots continue to carry out their functions. The player must make their way through the city with the help of an A.I character called T.H.R.I.S.H in an attempt to escape. Along the way the player will uncover the mystery of just what happened to all the people and the sinister plot going on in the background.

The section of our game we are developing will have the player navigating an old lab, avoiding hostile robots in order to escape the room. The level will have constantly malfunctioning doors which will open and close at random intervals. This area will have high emphasis on A.I (Artificial Intelligence), and level detail in order to create the tone of fear and tension we desire for the level.

My Primary Role:

My primary role in "The Thinking City" is the A.I developer. I am in charge of building up the enemy robots A.I state machine which will incorporate states such as idle, patrol, pursuit, and alerted. A detailed discussion of this work can be found below in the A.I tab. I have also taken up the role of the Lead Unity developer within my team due to the fact that I have worked in Unity for longer than the other people on my team.

Due to our smaller team size my second focus will be on a few things such as Quest Design, U.I Design, Performance, Lighting, and Visual Effects.
