Roles

Within my team i was working on programming ,designing and implementing the User Interfaces. I have this role because I have been working with C# and also already have some experience programming in Unity. I have studied UI and UX previously when designing apps and there is a considerable amount of transferable knowledge to our project. Within the team I had a secondary role as tester. I facilitated our user testing and worked with Kieran Keegan to test other aspects of our project. I also then worked on the group Mahara page. This was because of my work involving graphics.

ABB

Our external partner involved in our team project. ABB is situated in Dundalk and had an influence on our project as we were working with them. Our main contact in ABB helped us by providing us with all necessary information on the machines and processes we were aiming to gamify and simulate. We gave update meetings in which we would show our latest work and allow feedback to facilitate where the development was heading.

TECHNICAL CHALLENGES

Radial Menu Design

Part of my role will be developing a radial menu for use with GUS. This might prove difficult to implement in a way which is easily usable within the users view and space. To implement a menu like this I will need to research other examples and spend a lot of time testing and getting feedback.

Creating UI for Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality proves to be challenging to develop solid UI for because of its unique space. The user has to be able to use it accurately otherwise it will cause annoyance. The UI has to be designed with the world space in mind and cannot have a HUD as this is a big issue with immersion in AR. Immersion is the most important aspect when it comes to AR. This is also an issue for sound design.
