Games Development Year 4 - Ciaran Mooneys Journal /
Week 9 - UI Concepts

This week as a team we began working on our business document separate from our team project. We had a meeting in ABB, and I began working on my User Interface tasks, which included researching, sketches and concepts. Unfortunately Kieran was in an accident and was unable to join us for the week.

Business Document

For our entrepreneurship module we stayed as team FlipSide and worked on our Business Plan Document. We started by having team meetings and deciding what business to do the plan on, along with who would be doing what work. We settled on a virtual reality arcade and everyone took a section from our template document as their own to work on. I took Research and Development and done some research on examples of R&D in business plans.

ABB Meeting

On Wednesday we all met up in ABB for a meeting/presentation. We showed our current work and gave the presentation we did for our paper prototype again to ABB. We were able to organize getting a CAD model of one of the ABB machines and also a storyboard and employee documentation. We were shown a demonstration of one of the processes an engineer would go through. I took pictures of the process and one of our contacts in ABB, Brian, took a video to send across later along with storyboard descriptions of each step.

User Interface Concepts

For the team project for the week I began working on my User Interfaces concepts for ABB Training Day. I started by writing out what User Interfaces we will be implementing into the project. I wrote a quick description on what each of those might include. I then moved on to look at previous examples and begin drawing out sketches of potential designs. I ran through multiple different iterations of each example before I was happy with how it looked and would work in game. After this I moved on to making concepts in Photoshop. This allowed me to clean up the sketches and decide even more on other details such as the coloring and shading.
